We, the association »Faites votre jeu!«, occupied the former youth center in Varrentrappstraße 38 in August 2008 in order to oppose the repressive restructuring of the urban space with the attempt of a self-organized, non-commercial center. In February 2009, we decided to move to the former police jail at Klapperfeldstraße 5, which was offered as a replacement property by the city of Frankfurt under the pressure of broad support for our project.

Klapperfeld

After the initiative »Faites votre jeu!« decided in early February 2009, after long deliberations and discussions, to accept the former police prison Klapperfeld as a replacement building for their squatted youth center in Bockenheim, it was already clear that the use of the building could not take place without a critical examination of the over 115-year history of the former police prison. One result of this work are the permanent exhibitions on the history of the house:

A timeline on the ground floor gives a fragmentary overview of the prison’s history from the creation and construction of the Klapperfeld to its use by the initiative »Faites votre jeu!« as a self-organised centre.

The exhibition in the basement deals with the history of the former police prison and its use during National Socialism – 1886-1945.

On the second floor is the exhibition »Out of here – Inscriptions of people in police custody and immigration detention in Klapperfeld prison – 1955-2002«.

Every Saturday from 3 to 6 p.m.

Groups or school classes wishing to visit the exhibition out of regular opening hours are welcome to make an appointment for a guided tour. Just call or email us and we will try to make it happen.
